We can't predict the future... but we can prepare for it

Family life, owning your home, raising children and maintaining your own standard of living is costly and is generally reliant upon being able to generate an income. Life delivers risks as well as opportunities and part of our role is to discuss all of these risks with you.

Having suited insurance cover provides you and your family with financial protection in the event of unexpected death, illness, injury or a major health catastrophe (such as disablement, a heart attack, Stroke or Cancer). A comprehensive Insurance plan provides you with peace of mind and is designed to remove or reduce the financial stress that inevitably occurs as a result of these events.

Insurance Protection is key to you being able to focus on the important things in life, because it will ensure financial security for you and your family should anything unfortunate happen. Life Insurance, Disability Income Protection/Critical Illness Health Insurance helps pay down debt and your bills should you develop certain illnesses or suffer from injury or disability.

There are basically 5 types of Personal Insurance Covers:

1. Life Insurance

Life insurance is a contract between you and an insurance company. You make regular premium payments to the life insurance company. In exchange, the company pays a death benefit to your beneficiaries when you die. Additionally, some life insurance policies also include a free benefit called “Terminal Illness Benefit”. This benefit pays out the policy sum assured if the policyholder is diagnosed with a terminal illness from which the policyholder is expected to die within 12 months of diagnosis, certified by a Medical Doctor and avoids the waiting to pay out after the death of the policyholder.

2. Income Protection Insurance

Income Protection is a policy which pays a monthly benefit if you are disabled due to illness or injury and, as a result, you are unable to work in your own occupation. The benefit starts after a waiting/standdown period which you choose  at the outset and is payable for a maximum benefit period of either 2yrs , 5yrs or to ages 65 or 70,  which you choose again at the policy outset. Income protection cover can include  “Monthly Mortgage Repayment Cover” and pays your mortgage instalments if you become sick, injured, or disabled and as a result are unable to attend work and pay your mortgage.

3. Critical Illness/Trauma Insurance

Critical Illness or Trauma insurance pays you a lump sum in the event that you are diagnosed with a specified  serios illness or injured by a critical illness or injury that’s covered by the insurance policy. Most insurance companies specify or cover 40-60 illnesses or injuries within the Critical Illness/Trauma Insurance Policy. Some of the common illnesses or injuries are

  • Heart attack
  • Stroke
  • Cancer
  • Organ transplant
  • Loss of limbs
  • Loss of hearing, speech, or eyesight
  • Major diabetes requiring insulin
  • Arthritis

4. Total and Permanent Disability Insurance

Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD) Insurance cover pays a lump sum if you suffer a sickness or injury that leaves you permanently unable to work. TPD Cover can be included as part of your Life Assurance policy, or kept on its own. Either way, it’s paid out as a lump sum should you become permanently disabled and unable to work.

5. Private Medical Health Insurance

Private Medical Health insurance(PMI)  is a policy which meets the costs of a range of private medical procedures and treatments. These include surgery, cancer treatment, diagnostic imaging and tests, medical hospitalisation, specialist consultations, home nursing, treatment away from home and treatment overseas. The government does not fund private healthcare services, such as private hospitals or clinics.  A number of insurance companies offer private health insurance policies which cover costs in the private system. You can decide how much cover you want and the types of services you want to be covered for.
